Just like building a boat, creating a visual identity and style guide for your church is difficult. Join other church communicators and get all the tools you'll need at The Table on April 22.

Imagine a dozen people standing on the edge of a lake with the collective goal of reaching a specific spot on the other side. They can swim across, but some of them are much better swimmers than others. Even if these stronger swimmers try and help the weaker ones, it is still going to be a struggle for everyone. Some will reach the target spot much sooner, some may reach the wrong spot, some may never make it at all. Everyone will be frustrated, exhausted and soaked to the bone.

But what if, instead of swimming across, they build a boat.

It might take longer at first, will most likely require some sweat, frustration and even a few tears … but at the end the entire group can row across the lake together, unified in working to reach the place they had set as their goal. They don't have to worry about how and if everyone will make it to the other side. They have already done the work.

This is the same reason behind building a visual identity and style guide. Instead of a dozen people floundering in the water, trying desperately to accomplish what they have set out to do, each person can rest in the fact that the initial work has been done, the structure has been created, they only need to grab an oar and help row the boat to shore.

Just like building the boat, creating a visual identity and style guide is hard work. We want to make sure you have all the tools you'll need! On April 22, Fishhook is joining church communications people from around the state to talk through the why, what and how of building these guides. Come ready to discuss:

  • How you can use a visual identity or style guide effectively
  • What to do to overcome roadblocks that may keep you from creating and/or using these guides
  • The first steps to take to get the process started

These guides work as a structure of transportation. Whether it be websites and bulletins or event postings and email chains, there is confidence and safety in knowing that each staff member is in the boat—headed in the right direction.

RSVP here for The Table and start building your boat!
