6 Questions Every Church Can Ask to Focus on Your Current Vision and Communication

Written by Leah Norton | June 24, 2026

There’s always a lot happening in the life of a church.  Sundays come quickly. Ministries are active.  Communication keeps moving. And before long, it can feel like you’re staying busy - but not always staying focused with your vision, key priorities and intentional communication.

That’s why it’s important to pause.

Not to slow down the mission, but to ensure you're focused. And, the right questions can help your team get aligned, clarify what matters most, and communicate with greater purpose.

Below are six questions to help your church stay centered on vision and intentional communication in your current season.

1. Momentum and Engagement

Where are we seeing momentum and engagement with our vision/priorities?

(Or, if you're not - that's something to recognize and process.) Name it. Celebrate it. Encourage it. Continue learning.

2. Unity and Alignment

Are our Elders, staff and other key leaders aligned about where we're headed? Clarity fuels momentum. Misalignment slows it down.

3. Listen Up

What are we hearing from people (leaders, our congregation or community)?

Pay attention to feedback. Not every opinion - but the patterns. Where is there clarity? Where is there confusion or frustration?

4. Cast Vision for Mission-Critical Opportunities

Are there any upcoming initiatives/opportunities that we want to be especially intentional in vision casting and communicating about?

Not every announcement is equal. What is vital to our mission and deserves inspiring and compelling communication and clear next steps for engagement?

5. Share the Stories

What stories are we telling?

And where/how are we telling them?  Stories propel your mission and encourage the saints. So where and when are you highlighting life change, baptisms, spiritual growth, perseverance, serving and everyday faithfulness?

Consider how you can share stories in a variety of ways - in person and online. And with people of all ages and stages throughout your church, across multiple worship services, at all campuses, etc.

6. Progress and Problem Solving

If we could make progress and/or solve one communication challenge this quarter, what would it be?

Don’t try to fix everything. What’s one thing that, if improved, would make the biggest impact in your current season?

A Simple Next Step

We encourage you to take a few of these questions into your next leadership meeting! Ask them. Listen. Process. Align. Decide.

This conversation will help you keep making progress with your church's vision and intentional communication as a priority.
