Crafting Christmas Messaging That Connects with Multiple Audiences

Written by Shayla Kenworthy | November 11, 2025

Church leader, Christmas is coming. And while your work calendar might already be packed with all of the planning meetings, we encourage you not to overlook your Christmas communication strategy. It has the potential to make deep spiritual impact if you speak to the right hearts in the right ways!

Because here’s the thing ... your church doesn’t have just one audience. You have faithful regulars, Christmas service guests, skeptical seekers, tired parents, questioning teens and more. Each of them walks through the doors of your building or lands on the homepage of your website with a wide mix of questions, needs and expectations. So, how do you shape your message to resonate with all of them?

Start with the Core Message

What is the unshakable truth you want everyone to hear this Christmas? For many churches, it’s the invitation to abide with Christ.

In a noisy, hurried, over-scheduled season, this may be the message people long for the most. When you anchor your communications to this theme, it becomes the common thread that speaks meaningfully to a wide range of people.

Get Curious About Your Audiences

Instead of defaulting to a one-size-fits-all approach, ask yourself:

  • What do our regular attenders need to hear? They may need encouragement to slow down and invite others into an abiding life with Jesus. They may need to be prompted to pray for and invite a friend or family member to an upcoming service.
  • What would a first-time guest need to feel? Most likely comfort, clarity and a sense of welcome.
  • What might an unchurched person be wondering? It’s helpful to start with their questions or concerns rather than your announcements.

Offer Simple and Clear Next Steps

Make next steps easy to find!

A regular should feel confident about how to invite a friend. A first-time guest shouldn’t have to guess about how or when to come back. A seeker should be able to explore more without pressure or confusion.

Remember to Create Pathways Instead of Promotions

It's not about making things louder or flashier. It's about creating clear, thoughtful pathways so each person feels seen, welcomed and gently invited toward Jesus.

The beauty of the Christmas season is that it draws people in from every walk of life. Let’s make sure our messaging reflects that!

And as we help others move toward Christ, may we also pause to abide with Him ourselves.
