As we connect with church communicators and leaders there’s often a theme we notice: You are running hard.
You have a lot of plates in the air, your to-do list keeps growing and Sundays keep coming.
And somewhere in the middle of all of it, the pressure creeps in and you get that sinking feeling that you’re a step behind, just trying to keep up.
This isn’t just a time management issue. Sure we could all use more focus or efficiency. But being in ministry means you’re carrying both spiritual weight and practical execution at the same time. That’s not light work, friend.
In seasons like this, we don’t just need better systems. We need a reset.
“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.” (Romans 12:12)
This verse instantly grounds me in the exact truth I need to hear when I’m feeling the weight and pressure of the work ahead of me. I feel encouraged that Paul wasn’t writing this to people who were living in calm, predictable circumstances. This was a word for people under pressure. People trying to stay faithful in the middle of real life. People just like you and me.
I often find myself turning to breath prayers as a way to stay calm in the midst of everyday stress. And Romans 12:12 gives us a simple yet powerful reset rhythm we can return to again and again.
As I’m writing this I am using this short breath prayer to recenter my heart and mind. Will you join me? As you breathe in and out, say each set of words out loud or pray them quietly. (You could even repeat this cadence a few times if you need to.)
Breathe in: Joyful in hope …
Breathe out: God, lift my eyes.
Breathe in: Patient in affliction …
Breathe out: God, slow my spirit.
Breathe in: Faithful in prayer …
Breathe out: God, meet me here.
Remember, you don’t have to solve everything today. You can trust that God is at work right beside you. We hope you feel a little more grounded. And a little less overwhelmed. Because YOU and your work matter.
