At Fishhook, we love celebrating people who are doing faithful, often behind-the-scenes work to help the Church communicate with clarity and care. And this month, we are thrilled to name Cathy Klemm from Cornerstone Lutheran Church as our newest Honorary Fishhooker of the Every Other Month.
Fishhook has had the privilege of working with the Cornerstone Lutheran team, and Cathy has been a long-time friend who we get to collaborate with!
Cathy serves as the church's Communications and Publications Coordinator, which means she helps keep a lot of important communication happening for the church's five campuses. Weekend bulletins and announcements? Cathy. Weekly eNews? Cathy. Monthly newsletter? Cathy. Worship slides, website updates, special projects? Also Cathy!
Cathy is a humble servant. She serves like Jesus as she faithfully supports the people and ministry of Cornerstone.
And because she is quick to laugh and has a cheerful energy about her, we also want to give a little nod to our buffoonery value that we see in Cathy! We have seen this play out as she leads kids in worship (with all the motions and dance moves) at Cornerstone's VBS every summer, has fun helping host the church's annual Oktoberfest, or as she enjoys a concert in the park with her husband and friends!
We would say Cathy is faith-filled, loyal and cheerful. She has served at Cornerstone Lutheran for 33 years! That kind of loyalty speaks to her deep faith, her love for the mission and congregation at Cornerstone, and her willingness to serve and support.
She is the kind of person every church needs as she is often behind the scenes making sure the information is clear, the publications are ready, the website is updated and the details are covered.
We would recommend asking Cathy about long-term faithfulness in ministry. What has helped her keep showing up for 33 years? What has changed in church communications over time? What has stayed the same? And what does she wish more people understood about the many details that help a church communicate well?
We would also recommend asking her about the ministry of support. Because sometimes church staff members who serve in communications, operations, administration or publications can feel like they are "just" supporting the ministry happening around them. But Cathy’s work is ministry, too. Her calling matters. Her gifts matter. Her faithfulness matters.
Cathy has supported the work of Cornerstone and their impact with many other churches (especially throughout their denomination) for decades.
Cathy, thank you for your loyalty, your joy, your attention to detail and your steady commitment to the mission of Cornerstone Lutheran Church. Thank you for reminding us that behind-the-scenes work and ongoing support is holy work!
Congratulations on being named Fishhook’s Honorary Fishhooker of the Every Other Month!
