Is a new church name in your future? 4 questions to ask first.

Churches frequently discover Fishhook because they are curious about renaming their church. We love meeting with a church, hearing their story and helping them figure out how to represent that story in a name. 

Generally, when you talk about your church, the name is the first thing that captures attention. It speaks about the culture, people, and vision in just a few short words. You shouldn't have to defend your name. It should be something that you can thankfully represent!

If there is any question about the name of your church, or if you're wondering if changing it would bring together the congregation and allow the community to understand your purpose, then it might be time for a name change. But, before you start Googling synonyms for, "community," or "love," ask yourself these questions: 

1. When you are talking to others about the church you attend, is there hesitation?
2. Does saying the current church name to others bring more of a barrier than a celebration?
3. Is your current name a good outreach tool?
4. Your name is telling a story. What story is it currently telling? What story do you want it to tell to your community?
