Communications strategist Job Description

As a Communications Strategist at Fishhook, you're a strategic, positive, big-picture thinker eager to help our clients (who are churches/ministries) gain momentum through clear, creative and compelling communications strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary contact between Fishhook and the client, while working to humbly encourage, support and be in relationship with them.
  • Help clients think bigger, see the big picture, set measurable goals/objectives and/or consider a more thorough process for communications /marketing.
  • Train, inspire and empower leaders to communicate more effectively.
  • Support clients with tactical application, such as conducting focus groups, writing/editing, overseeing project components such as design, website development, social media campaigns, etc.
  • Coordinate with other Fishhook team members, vendors and project partners, to meet deadlines, closely following budgets and evaluating impact.
  • Be a leader, engaging in the growing environment at Fishhook.

Skills

  • 7-10 years (or more) of experience serving in one or more of the following roles:
  • account/project management at a communications / marketing agency
  • communications/marketing director for a not-for-profit
  • communications director at a faith-based organization or church
  • Strong organization and project-management skills; attention to detail, and the ability to handle multiple projects and clients
  • Ability to work independently
  • Proven experience and ability to coach senior leaders; able to probe/get to the heart of an issue
  • Strong interpersonal skills required to interact with clients and vendors to resolve problems/service requests quickly
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to balance the strategic vision with tactical needs of the client
  • Experience with professional writing and editing
  • Experience working with a marketing team of graphic designers and web developers
  • Exceptional problem-solving and critical-thinking skills required
  • Comfortable with public speaking and able to lead large group meetings
  • Clear sense of integrity, work ethic and a sincere interest in building strong relationships based upon competency and trust
  • Experience in a church setting - either serving on staff or attending/serving - with an understanding of culture, leadership structures, congregations, as well as comfort and interest in attending a wide variety of worship services

This opportunity is for a full-time position (30 - 40 hrs/wk) and is located in Indianapolis, Ind., with some travel that is occasionally overnight.
