A Recap from The Table - Fishhook's Favorite Things

Written by Grace Mitchell | September 17, 2015

We had so much fun catching up with everyone at The Table! It was such a great experience to get together for our last meeting of the year. In case you weren't able to join us ...

Here are the highlights of Fishhook's Favorite Things:

Social Trends

  • Periscope - One of the newest social media trends, this app was created to be a window into a more personal world. People are now live streaming special events, breaking news and the simplest everyday tasks. Check out our breakdown of how Periscope can be used in a church setting here
  • Inbound Marketing - If you've been around the Fishhook crew lately, you've probably heard us talk about inbound marketing. It's a new movement for reaching people online before they even step into your building. Find out why we think the church needs inbound marketing

Design Trends

  • Canva - If your church, or volunteers, don’t have training or access to the Adobe Creative Suite, we are so excited to introduce you to Canva: an online tool that makes design simple for everyone. Check out these blog posts for more info! Canva Believe It? and Canva Take a Closer Look?

Learning Trends

  • Individualized, on-demand learning opportunities - Companies are doing more of this and many options are online. These help you avoid traveling and accommodate schedules, many also include mobile options.
  • Adaptive learning - This creates more interaction between the instructor and student: The teacher customizes the approach for the student and the student can move at his/her own pace. This also applies in computerized learning environments where the computer asks questions and adapts the program based on a response.
  • Digital badging - These online certificates create ways to recognize learning achievements and share them with others. Explore them through services like Open Badges, Credly and Acclaim
  • Personal coaching/mentoring - A practical step to help the learner absorb information and apply knowledge.
  • How might it apply to you and your church? Volunteer/servant leader training, security procedures for children's ministry, discipleship opportunities, etc. You can launch your own through services like GoToWebinar, CourseSites by Blackboard, eFront and Moodle
