Tips on how you can maximize the team unity at your church and how doing so will positively affect other areas of your team.

Welcome to Part 2 of our four part series on Maximizing Your Team. If you are just joining us we would love for you to also take a look at "Part 1: Culture!"

One of our goals at Fishhook is to make sure we are doing everything we can so that our culture, unity, project management and resources are maximized. Our hope is that by being intentional about these four major categories we can create a fun and effective atmosphere that benefits both our team and our clients.

We also want you to have a team atmosphere that feels intentional and effective. With this in mind, we’ve asked a few Fishhookers to unpack some of our processes and experiences so that you can use them to help maximize your team culture, unity, project management and resources.

PART 2: Maximizing Your Team Unity - (the stuff that makes your team feel part of a group they trust and believe in)
Fishhook Expert: Shayla Kenworthy - Communications Strategist
Learner. Finish-line crosser. Former education non-profit communications director. Wife. Mommy to 3. Theater nut. Grateful. Devoted.

What do you love most about building team unity?
We as a team are successful because we all share vision, focus, direction and love being around each other while doing it!

Outline 3 ways Fishhook works to build team unity.

  1. We care about what is happening in each other's lives outside of work. We connect with each other outside the workplace for family picnics, celebrations, etc.
  2. We care that we are all reaching our clients' needs and helping each other do that in the best way possible.
  3. We trust each other.

Which of these 3 do you feel is most important and why?
We care about what is happening in each other's lives outside of work: This is important because we care about the whole person, not just the "work" person. If things are crazy in life, then we help each other in the workplace by easing the workload. And if things are great in life, we celebrate with our teammates.

How does building team unity affect the team's ability to build culture?
When we care about each other and know each other deeply, we can have fun with each other too!

How does building team unity affect the team's ability to maximize their project management?
We can shift workloads when someone is needing help. I appreciate knowing people are in the wings ready and waiting to help if I need it. So in turn, projects can be done more effectively and efficiently.

How does building team unity affect the team's ability to maximize their resources?
We all encourage each other to perform our jobs at our greatest potential. And when we know someone has a strength in a certain area we lean into it. Our people are our greatest resources.

Do you have a story that illustrates the positive effects of building team unity?
Change has been a constant theme around Fishhook in my almost 2 year tenure. Because the team is unified, though change can be scary, it is also doable because we trust our teammates to make the right choices for the whole group.

REMEMBER: Trust is key!
