We are looking for:
- A collaborative, team player that can create inspired and meaningful designs
- Great at listening and interpreting what you heard through visual solutions
- Able to create visual identities, sub-brands and campaign identities, websites, and produce digital and print resources
- A person who enjoys connecting and developing relationships with our clients
- Someone who appreciates flexible work hours and up for occasional travel (located in Indianapolis)
We’re a creative communications team based in Indianapolis, Indiana. We’ve been helping churches innovate, create and communicate for 17 years. We’re designers, developers, strategists, spouses, parents, thinkers, tinkerers, and whole people. We show up as whole people and fully believe in the local church.
Our clients include small, rural churches and multisite megachurches (and everything in between). We have many clients located throughout Indiana, the Midwest and across the nation. We’re inspired and energized by looking for possibilities in every person, church and circumstance.
About the Position
Visual designers at Fishhook collaborate with our team and clients, creating inspired and meaningful designs, helping to solve communication problems and meeting project requirements through the use of type, color, space and imagery.
Fishhook designers are ready to listen and work closely with others. They focus on uncovering and understanding who our clients are, who they are trying to reach, and what they need to bring creative, visual solutions to the table. As a visual designer, you’ll be creating church visual identities, sub-brands for ministries or campaign identities, designing websites, and producing digital and print resources.
Fishhook brings unexpected creativity, energy and value to every project, whether it’s a new brand/visual identity, a custom website, a social media campaign or print piece. Designers are involved in project discovery meetings with clients, brainstorming sessions, project reviews and, of course, are given space and time to create their best work with others offering support and feedback.
We anticipate that this is a 25-35 hours per week position (with room to grow the position in the future). There is flexibility - and we want to work with a strong candidate to determine what number of hours works best for their situation.
Especially in the midst of the COVID pandemic, this position allows for remote work and the majority of meetings with clients and our team are happening via Zoom as of the fall/winter 2020 and into 2021.
The position is located in Indianapolis. In a post-COVID situation, some travel will be required for client meetings with a few overnight trips taken each year. Trips usually include great food and a fun detour.
We’re looking for a creative collaborator who is ready to use his or her strong foundation of design skills to contribute to our purposeful and fun team environment.
We expect that you will bring an intentional, artistic drive while being flexible and open to critique. Our work can’t be precious. Sometimes we have to create things that take several rounds of revisions and/or that clients are committed to seeing through.
It’s important that you are a relational team player, able to collaborate with others positively and effectively. You should have 2-3 years of visual design experience and working expertise in Adobe Creative Software (InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator specifically). Experience with UI/prototyping software (Sketch, InVision, Adobe XD, etc.) is preferred.
We anticipate that you can organize and project manage work well. We’re a small team and rely on people who can self-start and self-organize, even though we’ll be collaborating and supporting you along the way. You can work well under pressure and with quick turnarounds when needed - but know that you’re not signing up for a short-order cook position.
You’re able to clearly share your rationale for design choices and answer questions from others who don’t have design expertise. We’re looking for someone who brings a humble, hungry spirit. We want someone who is a lifelong learner, wants to grow and can live out our Fishhook values.
About Pay and Benefits
We have a flexible work environment and encourage everyone to create a daily rhythm that helps them do great work. You’re a person first, employee second. Work diligently, but make space for valuable time with family, friends, your church and in the community.
On the other side of the COVID pandemic, we have core office days where everyone is in the office - this includes important face-to-face time and impromptu conversations about life and our work. Everyone typically works from home or coffee shops one or two days a week.
Snacks and “bonus food” is an unofficial core value. We work hard and love some buffoonery. Our office suite is located within a collaborative co-working space/community made up of people and organizations that are committed to making positive, life-changing impact.
Salary is competitive and paid time off is provided. You’ll also receive a monthly cell phone stipend.
