Personal feelings aside about Facebook, social media is not a fad, it’s a fundamental shift in the way we communicate.

Personal feelings aside about Facebook, social media is not a fad, it’s a fundamental shift in the way we communicate.

Roundtable Feb 2011On Thursday, February 10, Fishhook hosted the Communications Roundtable and welcomed 30 guests from all over Indiana, and as far away as Ohio, as we talked through "What you don't know (but need to!) about Facebook." Download the slides here.

What if you could engage in a conversation beyond the church doors? Hear what’s on your people’s hearts? Create momentum around your vision and events? You can – through Facebook.

What can you do right now to make the most of Facebook?

  1. Ask questions that evoke a response and be ready to respond.
  2. Post photos.
  3. Link to sermon podcasts.
  4. Recruit volunteers.
  5. Create Facebook ads.

At the Roundtable, we chose one lucky attendee, The Ridge (Columbus, Ind.), to receive an on-the-spot Facebook ad that we created together. Over the next month we’ll be monitoring the ad to track the ROI for the $50 investment and will let you know the results in March.

If you're still not convinced that your church or organization needs to be on Facebook, we encourage you to watch this short video and learn why social media is not a fad.
