Most churches see the value of blogging. But, where does all that blog content come from? Here are the top five places you can find content for your church blog.

With everything else you have going on, starting or growing a church blog can sound daunting. We know how hard your team works, especially to prepare for weekend services. As we say at Fishhook, those Sundays just keep coming!

By now, however, most churches see the value of putting content online to continue your message throughout the week. The million dollar question is: where does all that blog content come from?

Here are the top five places you can find content for your church blog:

1. Sermons
Sermons are the number one place from which you can pull blog content. Besides just posting the sermon so people can watch or listen, we usually find that a TON of content lives on a sermon guide. It's all about learning how to repurpose parts of one piece of content, into another.

Example: Church ABC posted a sermon guide online. Included was the outline given in the bulletin, a verse to pray about, the top three verses that highlight the sermon, and a Pastor's reflections on the sermon topic. There are at least 4 blog posts living here. Take each section of the sermon guide and make it its own blog post! Add an intro paragraph and some closing text, and you've got yourself an easy, yet inspiring, piece of content!

2. Events
With events come stories! Stories are a simple way to connect people to the mission of your church. They show online readers that there is life behind the organization! Blogging successfully around events could help your audience see the value of attending. If you blog at least twice before an event and once as a recap of the event, there are three more blog posts right at your fingertips.

3. Classes
This is a broad, yet content-filled, category! It could mean classes held on Sunday mornings or classes or groups put on by specific ministries. Having a seminar on marriage? Have someone take down the top five points and write up a blog post about it! It's a great way for those who missed the live class to get the basics, and it's also a way for people who were there to get a recap of what was said.

4. Individual Ministries
Youth group, women's ministry, sports and fitness, men's ministry, kids' ministry ... we could go on and on! All these individual ministries have amazing things happening! They have stories of life-change, lessons learned, and advice given. They also, more than likely, have people who want to share these things. Our advice is to find people within each ministry who enjoy sharing what's going on, and ask them to periodically give you a written update. These updates can be converted into blog posts.

5. Missions/Outreach
If you're looking for stories of life-change, you've got them served on a silver platter here! Many times, churches are already collecting these stories from each mission trip or outreach initiative. Use your church blog as a place where these adventures can live!

Still feel like you don't have the time or resources to ramp-up your blog? Think about starting a blog or online writing ministry at your church! Volunteers are a great way to help make your church blog a reality.
