Today marks an important shift in the way Google will list your website in its search engine results.

According to Google:

  • They are boosting the ranking of mobile-friendly pages on mobile search results.
  • This change will affect mobile searches in all languages worldwide and will have a significant impact in their search results.

What does this change mean for your church website?

Now that mobile-friendly websites will rank higher in Google's mobile search results, if your church does not have a mobile-friendly site there is a chance that it will not rank as high as it once did.

You will need to make sure your website uses “responsive design” to adapt your site’s content to the device on which your viewers are visiting. A responsive or “mobile-friendly" site will not only meet Google’s requirements, but it will also provide a better experience for those who visit your site on a mobile device.

If you’re not sure if your website meets today’s “mobile-friendly criteria” you can use this quick test to determine how Google sees and ranks your site.

If your website is not mobile-friendly, now would be a great time to think about a refresh! During a website refresh, you'll be able to update your content and design and make your site responsive.

Not sure if you need a refresh? You can schedule a website refresh assessment with our web team!

If your site is mobile-friendly, now may be a good time for you to re-assess the content you’re promoting on your busiest pages, as well as those sources driving traffic to your site (such as your social media presence). How are visitors finding you? What are the messages they’re receiving?

To do this, you can schedule an online engagement review with our Online Engagement Strategist.
