Abiding with Jesus this holiday season: A Christmas rhythm for healthy hearts and holy leadership

December in ministry can feel like one long blur of services, rehearsals and late night planning sessions. The joy of the season is real, but so is the exhaustion. And often, the people who love us most get the leftovers of our time and energy.

We understand that tension. You want to be present for your family and friends, but there’s always one more thing to finish, one more message to send, one more detail to manage before Christmas Eve.

But here’s the truth ... peace isn’t something that happens after the work is done. The peace of Jesus can show up in the middle of it all.

The first Christmas wasn’t polished or perfectly timed. It was noisy, messy and chaotic. Right in the middle of a smelly stable of animals. Yet right there, surrounded by straw and exhaustion, peace entered the world.

At Fishhook, we believe that same peace can enter your home and your relationships this season. And not because everything slows down, but because you invite Jesus into it all. Abiding with Him doesn’t require perfect rhythms. It’s simply turning your heart toward Him again and again, even when you’re tired.

So this week, as you lead and serve, let the peace of Christ guide how you love your people ... both the ones in your church and the ones waiting for you at home (or your best friends cheering you on from afar).

Encouragement as you Abide

“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace.”
Colossians 3:15

“Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom His favor rests.”
Luke 2:14

Space and Time for Reflection

Peace doesn’t mean quiet. It means presence. The presence of Jesus right in the middle of the noise and the deadlines ... with the people you love.

Abiding with Jesus in your family and friendships means letting his peace shape your words, your reactions and your rhythms. It means choosing to pause, to listen, to laugh, to forgive and to remember that every relationship is a gift from God.

You don’t have to get it perfect. You just have to invite Jesus into it.

Questions for Reflection

  • How are your relationships affected by this busy season?
  • What does it look like to bring Jesus into your home, your friendships and your ministry life this week?
  • Where could peace replace pressure in the way you love your people?

A Prayer for Today

Prince of Peace,

I invite you into my home and my heart this Christmas. Be near in the chaos and in the quiet. Teach me how to love my family and friends well even when life feels full. Let your calm and steady presence fill every relationship around me.

Amen.
