Different ways you can elevate summer ministry internally.
We’re in the midst of a series about how you can make the most of your summer ministry. In case you missed it, part one of the series helped you see how you could build awareness by serving your community. In part two, we shared tips on how to equip and encourage your congregation on the go.
But today we want to shift the focus internally, recognizing the importance of supporting your team and reinforcing your mission.
Start Summer Small Groups/Book Studies/Prayer Times
Depending on the size of your staff, you may have a few or you may have one. But meeting in small groups with your team is a great way to give everyone the opportunity to deepen their faith and connect to each other in intentional ways. Look for ways to make these as practical as possible so they can stay connected as they are in and out this summer.
Plan Strategic Brainstorm Sessions
When was the last time your team gathered to brainstorm fresh ministry approaches? From seasonal planning to overarching community impact, carve out time for reflection and innovation. Address key questions to steer your mission effectively and adapt to evolving needs.
Encourage Staff to Use Summer Resources
In the last part of the series, we shared ways you could equip your congregation when they are on the go. Encourage your staff to use these resources and create space for them to share feedback on their experiences. This will help you know what’s working and also show your congregation that you’re all in it together.
Spotlight Staff Stories
Sharing stories in general is a great idea for your ministry. (You cultivate what you celebrate!) So why not use the summer as a chance to share stories from your team? These could be updates on how they are living out their faith in new ways, or spotlights to help your congregation connect to the people that are leading your ministry.
Cultivate Intentional Culture
Developing a healthy team culture is crazy important! It’s so easy as a church to focus all your energy on the people outside your team. But how are you showing up for each other? Developing a strong and intentional culture changes the trajectory of your organization. Over the summer, carve out time to deepen relationships, have new experiences and reinforce (or create) team values.
Have Fun Together
This is an extension of the "Cultivate Intentional Culture" mentioned above, but we wanted to call out having fun together this summer with your team! This might include everything from fun meals together, to celebrating summer birthdays with your staff, to planning a staff event and including their families.
Also, never underestimate the smaller, spontaneous moments of fun and celebration that might include bringing in donuts, setting up a tea/lemonade stand for the day or running out to get your team milkshakes from your local Chick-fil-A!
Serving your staff team and investing in your internal culture this summer (and in every season) is a key part of leading at your church and prepares all of your staff to be more effective in serving your full congregation and others. Use the summer to invest in them and rally around your mission together! What questions or ideas do you have? How are you encouraging your staff team this summer? We'd love to hear from you!
