Fishhook. It’s an unusual name, isn’t it? Not exactly the first thing you’d think of when imagining a team that partners with churches to help with their communications efforts. It’s more than just a clever nod to Mark 1:17, where Jesus invites His followers to become fishers of men. For our team, the name Fishhook is a calling and also a pretty great icebreaker during business calls.
I love it when I'm first connecting with pastors and church leaders and they ask me about our name and tagline ... "Catch More." It’s one of my favorite things to talk about.
You see, just like Jesus met fishermen where they currently were at—knee-deep in nets and smelling like the catch of the day—our Fishhook team meets churches right where they are. Sometimes that means helping them untangle a messaging mess or patching up a brand that’s frayed around the edges. Other times, it’s about helping them cast out bold new ideas into uncharted waters.
Fishing, much like ministry, isn’t for the faint of heart. It takes courage to cast your nets into the deep. And let’s be real, sometimes you don’t even know if there’s anything even swimming around. It’s unpredictable, messy and requires loads of patience. (Plus coffee. And a little bit of buffoonery.)
Helping churches make connections, one creative idea at a time, is what we’re all about at Fishhook. We're for the joy of seeing what happens when the nets come back full. The joy of lives changed, communities connected and people finding hope and purpose.
Of course, not every catch is a keeper. Sometimes the message doesn’t land, the email gets overlooked or the social media post doesn’t hit the mark. But like any good fisherman ... or Fishhooker, in our case ... we know it’s not about getting it perfect every time. It’s about showing up, casting our nets out once again and trusting God with the results.
And when the nets start to tear? When the work feels overwhelming? When it’s hard to see the point?
That’s when we roll up our sleeves and get to work. We help churches repair their nets. Sometimes that’s by refreshing a website, clarifying their message or simply reminding them why they started fishing in the first place. We support, serve and cheer our church partners on in their ministries.
Why Fishhook? Because we believe in the power of casting out in faith. We believe that every conversation, every creative spark, every bit of encouragement has the potential to “catch more.” More connections. More hearts. More opportunities to point people to Jesus.
