Breaking bread together (or taco shells in this case) is a timeless Christmas tradition that not only nourishes our bodies, but also feeds our souls.

Whether you share a meal with your staff, your family, or someone in need, remember that it all points back to the incredible gift we were given over 2,000 years ago.

In the midst of this festive season, when we're all wrapped up in the busyness of Christmas, there's one unconventional tradition that holds a special place in the hearts of my family: Taco Bell.

Yes, you read that right (it’s delicious, don’t judge)! While Taco Bell might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Christmas, it has continued to remind my family that the simple act of sharing a meal with loved ones not only nourishes our bodies (we’ll use that phrase loosely here) but also feeds our souls. By sharing a meal it serves as a symbol of communion, focuses on fellowship, helps us pass down family traditions and reminds us what the Christmas season is all about.

At the heart of Christianity lies the sacred act of sharing a meal, symbolized by the Eucharist or Holy Communion. Jesus Himself instituted this tradition during the Last Supper (spoiler alert for Easter here), inviting us to partake in His body and blood as a way to remember Him.

Just as Jesus broke bread with His disciples, we too can create sacred moments through the simple act of sharing a meal during Christmas.

For some, that might look like a traditional feast of turkey, ham, or even roast beast (for all you Grinch fans out there). For my family, it’s Taco Bell selections. Whatever it looks like for your family, do it in celebration and remembrance of the birth of our Savior.

Christmas is also a time for gathering with loved ones, and sharing a meal (or a party pack of tacos) is a great way to do just that. When we gather around the table, we create a space where Christ's presence is felt. It's in these moments of fellowship that we form lasting bonds and traditions that reflect the love of Christ. Think about some of your own favorite Christmas memories. Do most of them include what you got or who you spent it with?

Ultimately, sharing a meal during Christmas is about creating shared memories that glorify God. It's in these moments of laughter, conversation and thanksgiving that we find joy and fulfillment. These memories become the center of our traditions, woven with threads of love, faith and togetherness.

In a world where the holiday season can become overwhelmingly extravagant, Taco Bell brings us back to the joy of simplicity. This verse, in particular, captures the humble and unassuming circumstances surrounding the birth of Jesus. It reminds us that the true essence of Christmas lies not in extravagance or grandeur, but in the simple, miraculous birth of our Savior in a lowly stable. Taco Bell brings my family back to the joy of simplicity.

Scripture

For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them. – Matthew 18:20

Prayer

Our prayer for each of you is that as we enter the Christmas season, let us remember the profound significance of sharing a meal. Whether you're biting into a Crunchwrap Supreme on Christmas Eve or partaking in a different type of Christmas tradition, these moments have the power to strengthen our relationships, reflect the teachings of Christ, and create traditions that honor the true meaning of Christmas. In this way, we can find unity, love, and a deeper connection with God and one another.
