The Church during this fall's political season: an incredible opportunity to communicate great hope

You know how it's going ... there's conflict and war, poverty, concerns about our nation's upcoming election, weather disasters and more. It can feel upsetting and disheartening. In addition, we each face concerns personally with our family and friends. We are needy.

But God!

Through Jesus' great love, we are not consumed. We look to Him. He is so very good.

"Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness."
- Lamentations 3:22-23

And the Lord's purposes will ultimately prevail.

"Many are the plans in a person's heart, but it is the Lord's purpose that prevails."
- Proverbs 19:21

So while we have every reason in the world to be consumed by fear, division and discouragement ... we won't be.

This fall, every Christian leader and each of our churches have an amazing opportunity - a privilege, really - to be counter-cultural and to shepherd others. Through Christ, there is incredible hope.

Here are a few thoughts for communicating in this season:

Prioritize Prayer

First, lead yourself and then your team in intentional prayer, knowing that true peace begins by connecting with God’s heart.

Dwell with Him. Gain His perspective for each day. Then, encourage your congregation to turn to God with their concerns and to trust in His care.

Listen in Love

In this season with many complexities and rhetoric, model humility and compassion. Say less. Listen more. Seek to learn and understand. Ask the Spirit to help you be humble, compassionate and respectful.

Point People to Jesus

There are many situations, outcomes and next steps happening this fall. As people participate, we are pointing people to Jesus. And to Jesus alone! We trust that God will have His Way.
